The picturesque town of La Conner is situated next to the Swinomish Channel and across from the Swinomish Indian Reservation. La Conner is known as the cultural and art center of Skagit county. The work of area artisans, craftspeople and Native American carvers can be found for sale at many of the towns stores & boutiques along the waterfront First Street.
The town of 900 people boasts three museums and several award-winning restaurants specializing in fresh seafood, local micro-brews and wood-fired pizza. The town has a large marina and dry-dock and boat tours of Deception Pass and the San Juan Islands are available downtown. Just across the Swinomish Channel on Fidalgo Island there is a fantastic community neighborhood "Shelter Bay" with a private marina and approximately 900 private residences. Most of the homes are on leased tribal land but a few are deeded lots.
